Oprah: I’m the author of a book club

A book club has become an institution at Oprah Winfrey’s sprawling Palm Springs home.

More than a dozen members of Oprah’s Book Club are expected to attend Sunday’s ceremony, which is expected to draw thousands of people to Palm Springs, the nation’s most populous city.

The Palm Springs Convention and Visitors Bureau says the club will be the largest book-club event ever held at the home.

Oprah has a club at her home and has held book clubs at her Rancho Mirage home for years.

In the late 1990s, she started the Oprah Books Club.

The group of more than 60 book-lovers is not the only one at the sprawling home.

The group includes other celebrity friends like actor Michael Douglas, actress Julia Roberts and singer-songwriter David Bowie.

They include Oprah, her family, her friend Mariah Carey and former President Jimmy Carter.
